How Subcategories Work

Subcategories are useful to keep track of specific items or brands. For example, if you purchase “Starbucks” coffee, you can create a subcategory to keep track of how much you spend at “Starbucks”.

How to Create Subcategories

To create subcategories for the purchase tags, you add the subcategory tag after the dollar amount and then add the main tag. Using our Starbucks example, if you wanted to create a “Starbucks” subcategory you would place a hashtag #Starbucks after the dollar amount then a space and then add #coffee”as the main category.

On the graph, it gets a bit complicated. We are working on a way to make the graph display subcategories, but for now the graph will put down both the the main tag and subcategory tag as two different purchases. In this example, it would put starbucks as a separate purchase on the graph:

So, how do you make the graph show your purchases without comparing the main category with the subcategory.. If you click on the subcategory in the legend, then the subcategory will turn off and the main category will take over.

When you click on the subcategories then the graph will only display the main categories:
